This Help article covers useful features when making voice and video calls and how to use them.
Settings and features to configure before making voice/video calls
Setting ringtones/ringback tones
- In the LINE app on your main device, tap the Home tab >
> Calls. - Tap Ringtone or Ringback tone.
- Tap
to the right of the ringtone/ringback tone you want
to set.
You can play ringtones/ringback tones by tapping them. To stop playing the
ringtone/ringback tone, tap
.
If you joined LYP Premium (available in Japan), you can set your favorite songs as your ringtone/ringback tone.
iPad
- In the LINE app on your sub device, tap Settings > Calls.
- Tap Ringtone.
You can play ringtones/ringback tones by tapping
to the right of them.
Android
- In the LINE app on your sub device, tap the Home
tab >
> Calls.
- Tap Ringtone.
You can play ringtones/ringback tones by tapping
to the right of them.
Having high-definition (HD) video calls
For 1-on-1 video calls
iPhone
If you only want to have HD video calls on a Wi-Fi connection, see the steps below.
Useful info
- If HD on Wi-Fi only is turned off, your video calls will be in high definition on both cellular data and Wi-Fi connections.
- In the LINE app on your main device, tap the Home tab >
> Calls > Video
call quality settings. - Under 1-on-1 video calls, turn on HD on Wi-Fi only.
Android
- In the LINE app on your main device, tap the Home tab >
> Calls > Advanced call setting. - Tap 1-on-1 video call quality > High-definition.
If you only want to have HD video calls on a Wi-Fi connection, turn on HD on Wi-Fi only for 1-on-1 video calls.
iPad
If you only want to have HD video calls on a Wi-Fi connection, see the steps below.
Useful info
- If HD on Wi-Fi only is turned off, your video calls will be in high definition on both cellular data and Wi-Fi connections.

[iPhone] For group video calls
Be advised
- To have group calls in high definition, you need to meet the following conditions.
- You've made a video call at least one time.
- You're using an iPhone XS or later iPhone model.
- Tap the Home tab >
> Calls > Video call quality settings. - Turn on HD group video call.
If you only want to have HD group video calls on a Wi-Fi connection, turn on HD on Wi-Fi only under Group video call.
[Android] Displaying incoming call notifications in full screen on the lock screen
- Tap the Home tab >
> Calls. - Tap Receive LINE calls while screen is locked.
- Turn on permission for Allow full-screen notifications from this app.
Useful info
- The relevant setting name may differ depending on your device.
[Windows/Mac] Displaying more participants on a group video call screen
- At the bottom of the main menu, click
> Settings. - Click Calls > the Advanced tab.
- Check the circle next to Display up to 49 participants in grid view.
Useful info
- To display more participants during a group video call, your system must meet the following requirements.
- • If you're using a dedicated graphics card:
- CPU: 2 cores or more
- Clock Speed: 1.5 GHz or higher - • If you're using Intel onboard graphics:
- CPU: 4 cores or more
- Clock Speed: 1.5 GHz or higher
Features you can use during voice or video calls
During voice/video calls, you can use various features such as sharing the screen you're
looking at, reacting with stickers, and changing your background.
See the following sections for the steps on how to use each feature.
Sharing your screen in voice/video calls
Be advised
- On iOS devices, the feature is not available on iOS versions earlier than iOS 12.
- The feature is not available on some Android devices.
- The feature is not available in 1-on-1 voice calls.
To use the feature, see the steps below.
iPhone/iPad
- Tap Activities at the bottom right of the screen > the Screen share tab.
- Tap Screen share.
- Tap Start Broadcast.
- Go to the screen you want to share.
To stop sharing your screen, tap the red status bar at the top of the screen > Stop, or go back to the LINE app and tap Stop sharing > Stop Broadcast. You cannot use the screen sharing feature if someone else is already sharing their screen or a video.
Android
Sharing your screen
- Tap Activities at the bottom right of the screen > the Screen share tab.
- Tap Screen share.
- Tap Start now.
If you're asked to allow permission for the LINE app, try following the steps below.
Note: These steps and labels may differ depending on your Android OS version and device.
- Tap your device's Settings > Apps.
- Tap LINE in your list of apps.
- Tap Display over other apps, then turn the setting on.
Sharing websites
- Exit the group video call screen and copy the URL you want to share.
- Go back to the group video call screen.
- Tap the website that appears at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Start now.
To stop sharing your screen, tap
. Returning to the video call screen will automatically end the
screen-sharing session. You cannot use the screen sharing feature if someone else is
already sharing their screen or a video.
You can also drag
to move its location.
Sharing YouTube videos in voice/video calls
Be advised
- The feature is not available in 1-on-1 voice calls.
- Update LINE if you can't play YouTube videos.
- Tap Activities at the bottom right of the screen > the YouTube tab.
- Enter text in the search field and tap
or search. - Tap the video you want to share.
- Tap Share.
Useful info
- On Android devices, by copying a YouTube URL, the copied YouTube link will appear at the bottom of the voice/video call screen. You can open YouTube by tapping Share from the displayed link.
- To stop
sharing a YouTube video, tap
at the top right of the screen > Stop sharing. You cannot use the screen sharing feature if
someone else is already sharing their screen or a video.
Using stickers in video calls
To use a sticker in a video call, see the steps below.
- Tap the video call screen.
- Tap Camera effects at the bottom of the screen > Stickers or tap the face icon at the bottom left of the screen.
- Select the sticker you want to use.
You can use the following sticker types. Please note that sound stickers, some sticker sets, and emoji cannot be used.
• LINE and BT21 official stickers
• Effect stickers
• Message

• Custom stickers
• Big stickers
• Creators' stickers
• Animated
stickers
• Pop-up stickers
Useful info
- Stickers used in video calls appear on the screen for five seconds.
- Animated stickers appear until their animation finishes.
Changing your background in 1-on-1/group video calls
- On your main device tap the video call screen.
- At the bottom of the screen, tap Camera effects > Backgrounds.
- Tap
to set a photo saved on your device as
your background or, tap
to set one from LINE. - Edit the photo any way you like, then tap Done.
iPad
- On your sub device tap the video call screen.
- At the bottom of the screen, tap Camera effects > Backgrounds.
- Tap
to set a photo saved on
your device as your background or, tap
to set one from LINE.
Android
- On your sub device tap the video call screen.
- At the bottom of the screen, tap Camera effects > Backgrounds.
- Tap
to set a photo saved on
your device as your background or, tap

[Android] Displaying voice and video calls in compact mode
- Tap the Home tab >
> Calls. - Turn on Compact voice call mode and Display over other apps or turn on Compact video call mode and Allow picture-in-picture.
Useful info
- When you tap a video call that's in compact mode, you can perform the following actions.
- Turn your camera and mic on or off.
- Switch to full screen mode.
- Turn on or
off the Allow picture-in-picture setting from
