I got a notification but didn't receive any messages

If you receive a notification but the relevant message doesn't appear in your chat list, or if there is a delay before it appears, try the following troubleshooting tips in order.

  • Go back to your chat list and then reopen the chat room you're having issues with.
  • Restart your device.
  • Update the LINE app to the latest version.
  • Check or disable any web limiting or filtering services you may have in place.
    Note: Consult your mobile service provider for more information about web limiting and filtering services.

If the message still does not appear after trying the troubleshooting tips above, it might be caused by the following reasons.

Your friend used Premium unsend

LYP Premium (Japan)/LINE Premium (Taiwan and Thailand) members can use the Unsend discreetly feature.

If your friend uses Unsend discreetly, you may see an operating system (OS) push notification, but the message will not be visible in the chat. For details about this feature, see Unsending/deleting messages and the differences in how they appear to others.

You have more than one LINE account

If you didn't successfully transfer your LINE account, or if you accidentally created multiple LINE accounts, relevant messages may not appear even if you receive notifications for them.

How this happens

  • Your previous LINE account still appears in your friend's friend list.
  • Your friend is messaging your previous LINE account.
  • You're receiving notifications for messages sent to your previous LINE account on your current device.
    Note: In some cases, notifications may not arrive at all.

Ask your friend to perform the following steps.
