Re-adding deleted friends

You may be able to re-add a friend you deleted if you still have a group chat that you both used or your chat with them still appears in your chat list.

- You won't be able to unhide your chat with the friend if the chat has already been deleted.
- Friends will not be notified when you re-add them.
Please see the method below for re-adding your friend in your situation.

I have mutual friends/acquaintances with the friend I deleted:
If you have a mutual friend or acquaintance with the friend you deleted, ask them to share your friend's LINE account via Contact.

I know the LINE ID/phone number of the friend I deleted:
If you know the LINE ID or phone number of the friend you deleted, try re-adding them by searching for their LINE ID or phone number.
Note: The phone number search feature is only available for LINE accounts created with LINE versions earlier than 13.11.0 if you're using LINE outside of Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, or Thailand.

I still have a group chat that me and the friend I deleted both used:
Main device
Users in Japan 1. Tap the Chats tab > the Chats tab at the top of the screen, then select the group chat you both used.
2. Tap the group name at the top of the screen.
3. Tap the icon of the friend you want to re-add, then tap Add.

Users outside Japan 1. Tap the Chats tab, then select the group chat you both used.
2. Tap the group name at the top of the screen.
3. Tap the icon of the friend you want to re-add, then tap Add.

Sub device
iPad/Android 1. Tap the Chats tab, then select the group chat you both used.
2. Tap the group name at the top of the screen.
3. Tap the icon of the friend you want to re-add, then tap Add.

Windows/Mac/Chrome 1. Click the Chats tab, then select the group chat you both used.
2. Click the group name at the top of the screen.
3. Click the icon of the friend you want to re-add, then click Add friend.

The chat with the friend I deleted appears in my chat list:
Main device
Users in Japan 1. Tap the Chats tab > the Chats tab at the top of the screen, then select the chat with the other person.
2. Tap Add.

Users outside Japan 1. Tap the Chats tab, then select the chat with the other person.
2. Tap Add.

Sub device
iPad/Android 1. Tap the Chats tab, then select the chat with the other person.
2. Tap Add.

Windows/Mac/Chrome 1. Click the Chats tab, then select the chat with the other person.
2. Click Add friend.

The chat with the friend I deleted doesn't appear in my chat list:
Main device 1. Tap the Home tab > Settings > Chats > Hidden chats.
2. Tap Edit next to the person you deleted > Unhide chat.
3. Return to the Home screen, tap the Chats tab, then choose the chat with them.
4. Tap Add.

Sub device
iPad 1. Tap Settings > Chats > Hidden chats.
2. Tap Edit next to the person you deleted > Unhide chat.
3. Return to the Home screen, tap the Chats tab, then choose the chat with them.
4. Tap Add.

Android 1. Tap the Home tab > Settings > Chats > Hidden chats.
2. Tap Edit next to the person you deleted > Unhide chat.
3. Return to the Home screen, tap the Chats tab, then choose the chat with them.
4. Tap Add.

Windows/Mac/Chrome 1. On the main menu, click Settings icon > Settings > Chats.
2. Under Hidden chats, click Unhide next to the chat you want to unhide.
3. From the main menu, click Chats, then select the chat with the deleted friend.
4. Click Add friend.
