Transferring your chat history

You can transfer your chat history to your new device by backing it up with your old device.

If you still have your old device

Make sure you're using the latest version of LINE. (Update LINE to the latest version)

If you're transferring your account to the same OS

First, check your old device to make sure of the following details.

  • iCloud Drive is turned on (iOS only).
  • There is enough free space in iCloud Drive/Google Drive.
  • The device is being used in an area with a strong network connection.

Next, follow the steps below to back up your chats.

  1. Tap the Home tab > Settings > Chat history backup.
  2. Tap Back up now.
    Note: You can confirm the PIN you set by tapping Backup PIN.
  3. After your backup is complete, tap Transfer account and transfer your account with an easy transfer QR code.
If you're transferring your account to a different OS

You can automatically transfer your chat history from the last 14 days if you set a backup PIN.
Note: If your new device is running a different OS, you cannot transfer your chat history from before the last 14 days that you backed up to iCloud Drive/Google Drive.

First, see the steps in About the backup PIN and set a backup PIN on your old device.
Note: You can confirm the PIN you set by tapping Backup PIN.

Once you've finished backing up your chats, please transfer your account.

Depending on whether your new device runs the same OS as your old device, the data that can be transferred along with your LINE account will differ. Refer to Data that can be transferred for details.

If you no longer have your old device
If you're transferring your account to the same OS

If you backed up your chat history to iCloud Drive/Google Drive

You can transfer your chat history when transferring your account. See the following Help articles for details.

Note: If you had a backup PIN set, you'll need to enter it. For details, see About the backup PIN.

If you didn't back up your chats to iCloud Drive/Google Drive but had a backup PIN set

You can transfer the last 14 days of your chat history. For details, see About the backup PIN.

If you didn't back up your chats to iCloud Drive/Google Drive or set a backup PIN

Unfortunately, you will not be able to transfer your chat history.

If you're transferring your account to a different OS

If you had a backup PIN set

You can transfer the last 14 days of your chat history. For details, see About the backup PIN.
Note: You cannot transfer your chat history from before the last 14 days that you backed up to iCloud Drive/Google Drive.

If you didn't set a backup PIN

Unfortunately, you will not be able to transfer your chat history.
