You may not be able to view messages sent and received in the past after transferring your LINE
account.
The conditions under which this issue occurs vary depending on the method you used to transfer your
account and your usage environment. Depending on your situation, you may or may not see an error.
Some of
these error messages include the following.
- "This message can't be displayed"
- "Unable to display message as it couldn't be decrypted."
- "This message wasn't backed up and restored from your previous device. Unfortunately, there's no way to read it on your current device."
Causes for why your messages are not appearing
You transferred your LINE account to a device with the same OS without backing up and restoring your messages
Even if you transfer your LINE account to a device with the same OS (e.g. iOS to iOS,
Android to Android), if you don't back up your chats in advance and restore them after transferring your
account, past messages will not appear on your new device.
If you backed up your chat history, you may be able to restore it.
You transferred your account to a device with a different OS without using Premium Backup
When you transfer your LINE account to a device with a different OS (e.g. iOS to Android
and vice versa), you can transfer the last 14 days of your chat history to your new device by using a backup PIN.
If you're not using Premium
Backup, messages older than the last 14 days cannot be transferred.
Note: Premium Backup is only available to LYP Premium (Japan) or LINE Premium (Taiwan and Thailand) members.
You received messages while transferring your LINE account
Any messages you received from friends while transferring your LINE account cannot be displayed on your new device. In this case, ask your friends to resend the messages.
Your messages are affected by Letter Sealing
After transferring your LINE account, Letter Sealing (a feature
that enhances security for sending and receiving messages) will be applied, and you may not be able to view
messages that were sent or received in the past.
You cannot re-display messages that can no longer be viewed due to the specifications of the LINE app. If you
want to check past content, ask your friend to resend the same message or to
send the chat history in text format.
